A home for the story of the Kudumi people
Kudumi Culture was created so that the history, traditions and achievements of the Kudumi community could live in one trustworthy, beautiful place — open to the community, to students and to researchers anywhere.
Much of what makes a community distinctive is carried in memory: songs sung at festivals, stories told by elders, customs followed in the household. This project gathers that memory, studies it carefully, and presents it so that it can be understood today and handed on tomorrow.
The site brings together culture, anthropology, history, politics, economy, music, video and the life stories of important personalities, supported by ongoing research programmes.
Mission & Vision
Why this archive exists, and where it is heading.
Our Mission
To document, study and share the culture, history and present-day life of the Kudumi community with accuracy and respect — and to make that knowledge freely accessible to everyone.
Our Vision

Meet themHow We Work
Community memory and careful research, working together.
Gather
We collect oral histories, songs, photographs, documents and published research from elders, families and scholars.
Verify
Claims are cross-checked against reliable sources, and differing accounts are noted rather than hidden.
Publish
Findings are written clearly and shared as articles, profiles, audio and video, open to all readers.
Preserve
Material is kept in an organised digital archive so it remains available for future generations.
What We Stand For
Respect
We present the community and every individual with dignity, and ask permission before sharing personal stories and images.
Accuracy
We aim to be factual and well-sourced, and we correct errors promptly when they are pointed out.
Community Voice
Elders, artists and families are partners in this work, not just subjects of it.
Openness
Knowledge about the community should be freely available to the community and to the world.
Continuity
We build for the long term, so today’s memories reach generations that are not yet born.
Research Integrity
Opinion is kept separate from evidence, and sources are acknowledged wherever they are used.
